Postdoctoral Researcher (Fall 2025)
Trained in spatial and temporal analytical methods, Tiffany is interested in pursuing ecological research questions with applications relevant to those 'on-the-ground'. With a quantitative educational background and field training, she is happy to develop new statistical methods by collaborating with researchers working broadly in environmental sciences. She obtained her PhD in Statistics from Northwestern University in Spring 2025.
Graduate Student (PhD) - NSF Graduate Research Fellow & UIC Pipeline to an Inclusive Faculty Fellow
Eduardo is interested in understanding the role of different drivers of global change (ex: climate change and canopy loss) in driving plant invasions across the United States. He graduated with a B.S. in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and has extensive experience in plant ecology, remote sensing and spatial sciences. In addition to a GRFP, Eduardo was awarded with a prestigious UIC Pipeline to an Inclusive Faculty Fellowship. Aside from research, he is also very passionate about the inclusion of BIPOC scientists in academia.
Graduate Student (PhD)
Sarah graduated with a B.S. in Biology and a minor in Environmental Science from the University of St. Francis (Joliet, IL). She is currently focused on the roles of structural diversity and aboveground traits in associational resistance of tree communities to invasive insect pests. Outside of academia, she loves gardening and reading.
Graduate Student (PhD)
Gunashree just completed her Master's in Computer Science at UIC and will embark on a new journey as an ecologist studying the role of volatile signal complexity in cross-trophic resistance to invasive insects. Gunashree is leveraging her CS background to work on estimating Biogenic Volatile Organic Compound emissions using the Model of Emissions of Gases and Aerosols from Nature (MEGAN) on Linux. She also focuses on creating computational workflows for ongoing projects.
Graduate Student (PhD)
Edwin is studying the relationship between monarch butterfly nectaring preferences and temporal shifts in native plant versus non-native plant availability in the Midwest. In collaboration with the UIC Heritage Garden he also studies the milkweed-mediated interactions between monarchs and aphids. Outside of research, he is motivated to assist in the inclusion of underrepresented communities in ecological science.
Incoming Graduate Student (PhD) (Fall 2025)
Postbaccalaureate Researcher
Sofia earned a B.S. in Biology with a concentration in Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Studies from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her research focuses on the abiotic and biotic drivers of plant invasion, particularly the role of familial relatedness and differences between native and invasive ranges under the context of Darwin’s Naturalization Hypothesis. Outside of research, she enjoys hiking, crocheting, and playing video games.
